Silverweed
A close-up view of a silverweed leaf stem. Silverweed is a low growing herbaceous plant with leaves that are 10-20 cm long. The stems and leaflets are covered in silky white hairs which gives the leaves a silvery appearance. Small yellow flowers are produced between May and August. This specimen was captured in Calke Park, Derbyshire, England.

Hydrangea macrophylla Close-up

Common Cottongrass Seed-head
A close-up view of a Common Cottongrass, (Eriophorum angustifolium), seed-head, showing the white bristle like hairs which are present after fertilisation. The Cottongrass plants were growing in the High Peak, beside the Snake Path near to Hayfield in Derbyshire, England. The plant is an upright perennial with a height of up to 75cm; it grows in very boggy ground with peaty acid soil.

Passion Flower Close-up
A close-up of a Passion Flower, (Passiflora caerulea), which is my favourite flower. This flower was photographed in my own greenhouse. I have propagated and grown these beautiful climbers for many years, but this specimen, has been resident in my greenhouse for over 30 years and although each year I have a constant battle to keep the rampant climber under control, I cannot bear to part with it.

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Blue Wave'
The flowers of a Hydrangea macrophylla 'Blue Wave', photographed in the Lost Gardens of Heligan, near Mevagissey in Cornwall, England. This close-up view of the lacecap hydrangea, shows clusters of fertile flowers which change from green to dark blue and these are surrounded by larger pale blue sterile flowers. The deciduous shrub has large green leaves and the flowers appear from mid-to late summer.

Common Gorse in the Woodland
A tall specimen of common gorse, (Ulex europaeus), is pictured on the edge of the woodland at Branston Water Park, in Branston, Staffordshire, England. The gorse bush with its small yellow flowers and sharp thorns, was captured against backdrop of blurred tree branches. This species has a long flowering period, which begins in late autumn, it continues throughout the winter and then the strongest flowers appear in spring.
