Stacked Stones on Durgan Beach, Cornwall

A photograph of stacked stones which I discovered on the beach at Durgan in Cornwall, England. The beach is on the northern banks of the Helford River, in the seaside hamlet of Durgan. Earlier in the day, I had noticed that a party of school children were on the beach; maybe it was some of their artistry!

The dinghy park at Runswick Bay in North Yorkshire, England. A grass bank behind the beach is utilised as the dinghy park in this delightfully compact little seaside village. At the top of the grass bank is a hand operated winch which runs on rails along the top of the bank. Boats can be winched up, off the beach across the wooden slipway and then onto the bank. The scene was captured from the top of the beach.

A supervised group of children pictured rock pool fishing at Runswick Bay, in North Yorkshire, England. The surrounding water was not deep, but the incoming tide was gradually filling in all the small pools. The children paddled safely to the beach, shortly after this photo was taken.

The lovely seaside village of Staithes, in North Yorkshire, England. Pictured here are, clusters of tall houses and cottages, the gorge with the stream Roxby Beck running through it and spanned by a footbridge, and the harbour which is protected by headlands on both sides and by two long breakwaters. I've read that the village has changed very little since the time of the explorer, Captain James Cook, in the mid 1700s.

The 1,500 feet long pier, with a landing stage for steamers at the pier head, was designed by engineer John Anderson, and was opened in 1869.

Here on the north coast of Wales is Llandudno Pier. It has a length of 2,295 ft and is the longest pier in Wales. The first short pier was built on this site in 1858. Since then the pier has undergone several extensions and repairs.
